Charity, Community and Benevolence at Acorn Lodge
Charity is central to Freemasonry, and Acorn Lodge is proud of its long-standing commitment to supporting a wide range of charitable causes. Over many years, the Lodge has made meaningful contributions to organisations that support individuals, families, and communities both locally and beyond supporting those most in need.
Acorn Lodge has donated to numerous charities across a broad spectrum, including:
-
Children’s charities supporting young people facing illness, hardship, or disadvantage
-
Hospices providing care, dignity, and comfort to patients and families
-
Special Educational Needs charities supporting access to specialist education and resources
-
Cancer charities funding research, treatment support, and care services
-
Community and welfare charities responding to local needs
The Lodge places strong emphasis on considered, sustained charitable giving, ensuring support is purposeful and effective rather than purely one-off.
Regular Beneficiaries and Ongoing Commitment
A key aspect of Acorn Lodge’s charitable work is its support of regular beneficiaries. Each year, the Lodge identifies charities that benefit from consistent assistance, often at times when funding is most critical. Our ongoing support enables charities to plan with confidence and reflects the Lodge’s commitment to continuity, understanding, and long-term impact.
Metropolitan Grand Lodge and London Freemasons’ Charities
Alongside its own charitable efforts, Acorn Lodge supports the wider charitable work of Metropolitan Grand Lodge and London Freemasons. These organisations deliver structured, well-governed support across London in areas including healthcare, education, community welfare, and assistance during times of hardship.
Through these established charities, donations are responsibly managed and directed where they can achieve the greatest benefit.
A Tradition of Giving Back
Together, this work reflects Acorn Lodge’s belief in service, compassion, and responsibility to the wider community. Through consistent charitable support and long-standing relationships with beneficiaries, the Lodge continues to make a quiet but meaningful contribution to society.
Charity at Acorn Lodge is not an obligation, but a shared purpose that remains central to its values and traditions.
Masonic Charity
Supporting London Through Masonic Charity
Masonic charity supports a wide range of causes, including healthcare, community welfare, and London’s emergency services. Through the Metropolitan Grand Lodge of England, London Freemasons have delivered several major projects providing lasting, life-saving benefits to Londoners.
St Bartholomew’s Hospital – CyberKnife.
London Freemasons funded a CyberKnife robotic radiotherapy system at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, enabling highly targeted cancer treatment and reducing some treatment times from months to hours, improving outcomes for patients across London.
London’s Air Ambulance Charity
Long-term supporters of the charity, London Freemasons helped fund a second helicopter in 2016, increasing availability. More recently, they pledged £3 million to the Up Against Time appeal, which concluded successfully in 2024, delivering two new Airbus H135 helicopters now serving London’s 10 million residents.
London Fire Brigade
A £2.5 million fundraising campaign funded two 210-foot super-aerial ladders, the tallest in the UK, each capable of delivering 2,500 litres of water per minute. The appliances were unveiled at the Lord Mayor’s Show in 2021.
London Ambulance Service
London Freemasons donated three Volkswagen Tiguan emergency response vehicles (c. £40,000 each) for volunteer Emergency Responders, building on five previously funded cars. In 2019, responders gave nearly 25,000 volunteer hours, attending 8,272 emergencies and supporting care for over 1.1 million patients annually.
Together, projects like these reflect the enduring commitment of London Freemasons to charity, service, and public benefit.
