What is Acorn Lodge No. 5320?
Acorn Lodge No. 5320 is a friendly and established Masonic Lodge based in South East London. We are part of the United Grand Lodge of England and meet at the South East London Masonic Centre in Penge. Our members come from all over England & the South East, as far as Lincolnshire and Suffolk, and have a wide range of backgrounds, sharing values of integrity, friendship, respect, and service.
What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is a historic, non-political, charitable organisation that encourages personal development, self-improvement, and community involvement. It provides an environment where members build friendships and contribute positively to society.
Who can join Acorn Lodge?
We welcome men who believe in a Supreme Being, value friendship and community involvement, and are interested in personal development and learning. You do not need any prior knowledge of Freemasonry, nor do you need to know an existing member.
What if Acorn Lodge is not the right fit for me?
We aim to match prospective members with Lodges that best suit their interests, availability, and circumstances. If Acorn Lodge is not the right fit, we will help you explore other Lodges that may be more suitable.
Where and when does the Lodge meet?
The Lodge meets at the South East London Masonic Centre, Avenue Road, Penge.

Meetings usually begin at 4:00pm and Festive Board dinner usually ends at 9pm.
What happens at Lodge meetings?
Lodge meetings include formal ceremonies and Lodge business conducted in a structured and respectful setting. Meetings are usually followed by a social gathering, known as the festive board, where members and guests enjoy a meal and conversation.
What other activities does the Lodge offer?
In addition to Lodge meetings, members may take part in social events, dinners, talks, visits to other Lodges, charity fundraising, and community activities. Participation is encouraged but not compulsory.
What is the time commitment?
Time commitment varies depending on individual circumstances. Typical commitments include attending Lodge meetings, occasional rehearsals or Lodges of Instruction, social events, and charity activities. Expectations can be discussed openly before applying.
What does membership cost?
There is a one-off joining fee and an annual subscription. There may also be occasional costs for events or regalia.

How do I apply to join?
After making an enquiry, you will usually be invited to meet members informally, often at a social event or before a Lodge meeting. If you wish to proceed, there is a short interview with a small panel, followed by a ballot of Lodge members.
What support is provided to new members?
New members are supported throughout their early months. If accepted, each new member is assigned a proposer and a personal mentor to help explain Lodge routines and provide guidance during their introduction to Lodge life and throughout their masonic career.
Is Freemasonry religious or political?
Freemasonry is not a religion and does not promote political views. Members come from many faiths and backgrounds, and respect for individual belief and opinion is fundamental.
Is Freemasonry secret?
Freemasonry is best described as private rather than secret. Much information about Freemasonry is publicly available, including its aims, structure, and charitable work. Some traditions and ceremonies are reserved for members.
